The Story Behind the Creation of Veertly

2 min read

Behind every startup is a story about how the project was created— whether it be born from a hackathon, a summer side project, or from the urging need to help others, Veertly is no exception to this. Our founders, Joao Aguiam and Alexander Spahn, took to the writing board today to share the story of Veertly, why it was created, and how they believe our platform will help empower communities and events.

In October 2019, we faced a problem: Thousands of fantastic meetups are happening, internationally, every single day, however, the vast majority of these events were often too distant to attend. Inspired by empowering attendees to attend events without a travel barrier, we started to dig deeper for a solution.

Our research showed that the main reason many people attend business events such as meetups, conferences, and fairs is to network. Curtis & Coulter, a company specializing in hosting storytelling events/experiences, states that

“A big reason for going to conferences is to meet with like-minded people and industry peers. Conferences bring together people from all different geographical areas who share a common discipline or field, and they are a great way to meet new people in your field.”

As a result, we searched the market for any solutions in hosting online events that had features to foster networking and the creation of communities. Since we could not find a satisfying solution to attending events with networking features online, we have decided to build a platform ourselves as a side project.

When the COVID-19 pandemic started to spread across the world in February 2020 and physical distancing became the norm, we launched Veertly in order to enable event organizers to create interactive events and meaningful connections in a growing virtual world.
